few questions? tranny temp gauge and tach install | 4.6L Based Powertrains (2024)

i know theres a few ppl who installed tachs but it doesnt give much detail and i dont want to cut wires on my wiring harnesses or use the obdII gauge.i just want a tach without messing with important wires. anyone got a good post they can point me to? or tell me what to do? also i want to put a tranny temp gauge in. how would i do that? i have a 05 cvpi thanks for the help.

As far as you tach, I'm pretty certain that you have to cut the wires and splice in the tach adapter/driver? whatever they call it. Drock has a great writeup on it, or the Autometer website has instructions for their adapter. It shouldn't be difficult with patience.

oh ok i found the post. it doesnt seem that had i just dont like cutting wires that power my engine lol but i can fix the wire if it doesnt work for some reason.and the tranny gauge doesnt seem to bad either! thanks gdmjoe ill be trying it out soon! i hate rolling around in tranny fluid tho hahaha.

Would this be the same for a 2000? I have a tach from a previous vehicle that I would like to use. It is a Sunpro tach with 4 wires. any directions would be usefull to get this installed Thanks!

If you cheap like me I got a Autometer Tach Adapter off eBay for $30 shipped to my door. I also got a 2 1/16" Autometer tach for $60 & then ordered my tach pod for the steering column from ADTR.net. Pretty nice having a real tach in the car. I had the OBDII thingy before and it was just OK.
The tach adapter is pretty straight forward to hook up. The wiring harness is numbered(look closely) and easy to get too. Mine was below the brake booster & closest to the driver's side valve cover. Look twice before cutting.

not quite sure how to wire it any help would be great and i have read drock write up not sure if it applies to this adapter as well

^I have never wired up that adapter. Read the directions on it and compare it to how the Autometer one hooks up. Using the direction Drock has laid out you should be able to get that adapter to work if it does indeed work for our cars. All you really need to know is where to get the tach signal from and that is in the write up.
